Hypertension
Definition: Hypertension/high blood pressure is a condition in which the force of the blood against the walls of blood vessels is too high. Your blood pressure normally rises and falls throughout day. Blood pressure is measured using two numbers, systolic and diastolic, which is the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats and rests, respectively. Hypertension is defined as blood pressure above 120/80.
Overall health impact: Almost half of all adults in the United States have high blood pressure, but many are not aware of this fact because hypertension often has no symptoms. Hypertension can cause many complications, including disability, a poor quality of life, or even a fatal heart attack or stroke.
You can take steps to manage your blood pressure and keep it within a healthy range. Discuss self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) monitoring with your provider. MIMI-Rx is capable of pairing to blood pressure monitors, collecting results and then sharing this data with your care team. Scientific evidence demonstrates that people with high blood pressure are more likely to lower their blood pressure if they use SMBP combined support from their health care team.
